Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ziti pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
2 cups ricotta cheese
1 large egg
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups marinara sauce
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cook ziti pasta according to package instructions; drain.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
Add ground beef; cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, salt, and pepper.
In a large baking dish, layer half of the cooked ziti, followed by half of the beef mixture, half of the ricotta mixture, and half of the marinara sauce. Repeat the layers.
Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, until cheese is bubbly.
Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For added richness, you can include a layer of cream cheese with the ricotta.
Fresh basil can be used instead of dried for a fresher flavor.
