  • 1 package chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 jar chocolate fudge sauce
  • 1/2 cup shaved chocolate
  • 2 cups mascarpone cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate cake according to package instructions, then allow it to cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whip the cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  3. In a large trifle bowl, layer half of the crumbled chocolate cake at the bottom.
  4. Add half of the cherry pie filling over the cake layer, followed by half of the whipped cream.
  5. Drizzle some chocolate fudge sauce and add some mascarpone cheese.
  6. Repeat the layers to complete the trifle, finishing with a layer of whipped cream.
  7. Garnish with shaved chocolate and additional cherries if desired.
  8. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use a sugar-free cake mix and light whipped cream.
  • Feel free to substitute fresh cherries for the pie filling when in season.
